Couple of the Year 2006
Phil & Joyce Piotrowski
Many of you know
of us, but not a lot ABOUT us......
Joyce was born
in Ipswich, MA and Phil in Beverly, MA, both small towns north of
Boston. They grew up in the same neighborhood and, although not high
school sweethearts, married in April 1970.
Phil was an
Aircraft mechanic with Northeast Airlines (which merged with Delta Air
Lines), moving us to Georgia in August 1972. We have 2 sons, David 35
and Daniel 32, and Daniel's wife Christine, and, of course, Alexander,
our grandson, who will be 4 in May. We also have 3 grand dogs, Dunkin,
Donut and Tyg.
Joyce worked as
a hairdresser before starting the family and was a stay-at-home mom,
until she became a Certified Medical Assistant, and a Breath Alcohol
Technician, working at that profession for 10+ years. She pursued her
"mid-life -crisis" dream of being a Flight Attendant, and was hired by
Airtran Airways on April Fool's Day 1998--(YES! April Fool's Day!!). She
enjoys sewing, cross stitch, needlepoint and crafts of all kinds. She
was Chapter A's Scrapbook/Historian for 4 years, and Secretary for the
past 6 years.
Phil was a Delta
Aircraft Line Maintenance mechanic, and an instructor in the Maintenance
and Pilot Ground Training departments for 36 years, until retiring after
9-11 on December 1, 2001. He is currently a Bailiff in Morrow and Lake
City Municipal Courts, and is pursuing a new career as a Private
Investigator. He also enjoys woodworking, catching up on "honey-do"
projects, and of course, motorcycling. He recently stepped down after 3
years as our Chapter Educator. Phil's first bike was a 1961 Yamaha 250.
He also had a Honda Hawk 305. In 1987 he acquired a blue 1985 Aspencade,
which he kept until 1996, when he traded for a new green 1996 GL 1500
SE.
A few months
later he took Joyce to her 1st rally - Wings Over the Smokies, where
they purchased the matching Escapade trailer, a new windshield, and of
course lots of "Safety Chrome". We are both GWRRA members-Phil since
1989, and Joyce since 1996. We are also currently certified as Master
Level IV, Tour Rider and Co-rider.
We are truly
honored to represent Chapter A as your COY 2006.
