Our Couple of the Year for 2008

  Steve & Dottie Fagan

We met on a blind date on New Year’s Eve 1964 in Jacksonville, Florida. We went dancing and over to some friend’s house where we partied and got to know each other better. We had a couple of dates before Dottie returned to college in North Carolina. The next time we saw each other was on spring break 1965 when I proposed. We were married July 31, 1965.

We lived in Jacksonville for the next 10 years before we took it out west to Colorado where our first son, Ian, was born in 1978. Next we moved to Anaheim, California where we remained until June 1980 before coming back to the southeast and Georgia in particular where we currently reside. In 1981 our second son, Patrick, was born.

I continued my teaching career at Stockbridge High School while Dottie stayed at home with the children. When they were old enough to begin school, Dottie returned to her career as a legal assistant in McDonough where she works to this day. I retired from public education in 2005.

We began riding motorcycles/scooters in 1967 when we purchased a used Vespa, followed by a Honda CL350, a Suzuki 250 Savage, and a Yamaha 175 Enduro which was Dottie’s bike. When we moved to Denver, the bikes didn’t. We didn’t get back into riding until 2003 when we purchased our GL1200, joined GWRRA, and Chapter A where we met some of the nicest people. They are our friends for fun, safety, and knowledge.

On our first spring ride (2004) to St. Augustine, Florida, Dottie suggested that we get a new bike (something you don’t hear every day), so we bought our 2003 candy orange 1800. In January 2007 we had the bike triked and really like it. We have ridden many times with our GWRRA Chapter A family and have thoroughly enjoyed it. We took our first extended trip together in November 2007 when we went to Corpus Christi, Texas. You may see our trip at:
